The Redlegs
have been
humiliated
by a superior
Glenelg by
84 points
at Coopers
Stadium on
Friday night
and along
the way written
ourselves
into the history
books by posting
our lowest
ever score
at Coopers
Stadium. Most
pundits no
doubt left
Coopers Stadium
scratching
their heads
and wondering
how a team
could follow
up arguably
its best performance
in 3 years
by scoring
just a single
goal in what
the opposition
showed were
good footy
conditions.
Stephen Doyle
and Matthew
Bartemucci
dropped out
of the named
squad of 23
and the Redlegs
were down
one player
within one
minute of
the opening
bounce when
David Trotter
re-injured
his hamstring
which had
kept him out
the previous
week.
The home
side failed
to trouble
the scoreboard
attendant
in the first
quarter and
it took to
the 10 minute
mark of the
second before
Sam Rowe slotted
through the
teams first
ultimately
only goal
for the game.
For the remainder
of the game
their was
little to
cheer about
for the Redleg
faithful as
a well organised
and skilful
Glenelg gave
the Redlegs
a football
lesson.
For all but
10 minutes
either side
of quarter
time, the
Tigers were
first to the
contest, superior
in their attack
on ball an
body, gave
their Redleg
opponents
little of
no free space
and when they
did have possession
exercised
maximum pressure
to force turn-overs.
They hunted
in numbers,
were well
organised
in their structures
and set-ups,
their forwards
played in
front, their
defenders
tight, they
used the ball
with skill
and moved
it into their
forward 50
quickly
all the same
qualities
the Redlegs
showed at
Prospect just
days earlier.
The reserves
side also
had a disappointing
night at the
office, who
went down
by 20 point
s after being
in front by
18 at the
main break.
Playing in
the key forward
post, Brad
DeVries was
clearly the
team best,
presenting
and marking
well overhead
and finishing
with 4 goals.
Running defenders
Andrew Kirwan
and Brad Thomas
provided plenty
of rebound
while Ryan
Holm and Matthew
Brunoli were
the best of
the midfielders.
A better
day at Glenelg
Oval for our
junior teams,
both recording
victories
by 10 and
45 points
respectively,
the Under
19's elevating
themselves
into the top
5 and the
Under 17's
recording
their second
win for the
season.
"A week
is a long
time in football"
is an apt
and true cliché,
"chocolates
one week,
boiled lollies
the next"
is another
and best describes
our fortunes
over the past
seven days.
Reality is
however, and
with 15 days
until our
next encounter
our fortunes
can be reversed
equally as
quickly, but
only if the
Norwood Football
Club community
stays strong
and united.
