Eric
Johnson was a prolifically
talented rover who
enjoyed an illustrious
ten season career
with Norwood during
which he played
124 league games
and booted 92 goals.
In 1925, his first
season, he was a
member of the Redlegs
combination which
overcame West Torrens
by a point in the
grand final. He
played in a second
premiership team
four years later.
In 1933 he was appointed
club captain and
steered his side
to the grand final
from 4th place on
the ladder, but
West Torrens proved
to have the Redlegs
measure. After retiring
as a player at the
end of the 1934
season Johnson was
immediately elected
to the club committee.
Two years later
he became Norwood's
treasurer, a role
he fulfilled for
the next thirty-eight
years. A room at
the Redlegs club
is named in his
honour.
