Preseason Training (Update #5)
Sam Rowe

The senior playing group have continued to work hard on the training track in the two weeks following the pre-season camp. As the season draws closer the emphasis turns to the development, understanding and implementation of game plans and structures with each of the "line coaches" in Jarrod Cotton, Brodie Atkinson and Trevor Potts working with their respective groups both on and off field in this area.

Senior Coach Trevor Hill has also been working one-on-one with players to improve specific areas of their game (For example: Kicking technique) and with the use of video analysis improvements are already starting to be seen.

Players shining on the training track include Chad Gibson who has fully recovered from his season ending shoulder injury, Ed McDonnell who is matching it in running exercises with many of the midfield brigade and Matthew Bartemucci and Matthew Dawes who along with captain James Gallagher set the training standard. Ken Tyrrell has resumed full training after being on a modified schedule pre-Christmas after breaking his ankle late in season 2007 and looks certain to be ready for the start of trial games.

Ziggy Alwan

The 2008 playing group in its entirety is now together with Ziggy Alwan the last of our 2008 signings to arrive in Adelaide, hitting the training track last Monday. Ziggy joins David Trotter in arriving since our preseason camp.

Our State Under 18's squad members (Josh Benbow, Matthew Hill, Ryan Schoenmakers, Ben Speight, and Alex Stopp) attended their second footy camp in as many weeks over the weekend of 19 & 20th January, this time at Immanuel College. The five young men will now be training full time with the academy squad under Brenton Phillips until the end of February including weekly internal trails from 2nd February.

The playing group will enjoy a day off Monday for the Australia day holiday before returning to Coopers Stadium Wednesday night.
