Internal Trial

The Redlegs have completed our first hit-out for season 2008 with a spirited and competitive internal trial played over four 20 minute quarters in ideal conditions at Coopers Stadium tonight.

The senior training squad was joined by 2008 AFL Mini draftees Taylor Walker and Aaron Kite in their first appearance in a Norwood jumper along with fellow Adelaide Football Club listed players Kris Massie, Bryce Campbell and Luke Jericho. Stephen Doyle, Simon Phillips, Nick Jackman and Scott Borlace were rested for the game. A total of 52 players played, all getting at least a half a game to make claim for selection in next weeks first official trial.

For the record the Red team defeated the blue team by 7 goals (12 to 5) with Chad Gibson and Jesse Aish kicking 3 for the reds and Joel Coombes 2 while Taylor Walker and James Skinner kicked 2 for the blue team. David Trotter played with poise and bulls-eye execution of skills in the midfield, Jesse Aish and Joel Coombes were dangerous across half-forward, both knowing where the goals were to be found. Taylor Walker and Aaron Kite at full-forward and full-back respectively, both having never even trained with Norwood previously showed great natural talent and why they were drafted by the Adelaide Football Club. Ed McDonnell's work rate in key forward and defensive positions was exceptional and looks certain for an improved 2008, Chad Gibson and Kenrick Tyrrell worked there way into the game, and having missed much of 2007 will be better for the outing. Of the younger players, Matthew Hill found plenty of the ball on a wing and fellow Under 18's team-mate's Alex Stopp competed hard in ruck and centre half back while Josh Benbow provide good run from defence.

In summary, tonight's game was a good first hit-out for season 2008, there were some pleasing signs, however there is much more work to be done and improvement to come before Round 1 in a month time.

The team now looks forward to its first trial game against South Adelaide next Friday night at Coopers Stadium, the Reserves game commences at 4.55pm followed by the League game at 7.40pm.
