Rebekka McMahon has been elected as Captain of the Norwood Football Club’s women’s team.
The defender was voted in by her team mates and has sealed her place in Norwood Football Club history as the first female Captain for the Club.
Originally from Strathalbyn, Rebekka has an impressive football background with premiership experience with the North Cairns Tigers and winning a League Best & Fairest award in 2014.
Senior Coach Steve Symonds has welcomed Rebekka’s appointment and believes the team will flourish on and off the field with her support and guidance.
Rebekka will be joined by joint vice-captains Leah Cutting and Whitney Benson.
Cutting, an avid Norwood supporter is a 184cm ruck/key forward who last year represented South Australia against ACT at Adelaide Oval.
Coming from a swimming background, having swum for Australia at the Youth Olympics and the World University Games, Cutting is now also a member of the Adelaide Football Club’s train-on squad.
Benson, a 178cm key-position player would have found it hard to avoid football, growing up with four older brothers in Western Australia.
Thriving on the thrill of winning the one-on-one contests, Benson had plans to move home to WA before being picked up by the Norwood Football Club.
The Redlegs will open the Statewide Super Women’s League with a clash against North Adelaide at Coopers Stadium on Friday February 17.
