H T "Tom" Warhurst
(1935-1947)
A truly great sportsman
A strong marking and reliable defender who could be just as strong and reliable when playing up forward.
Tom debuted in 1935 and was the club's Best and Fairest in 1939 before embarking on military service. If not for this, his team mate Sam Gallagher believed that he could have been anything on the football field.
He resumed his football in 1945 and was one of the best in the 1949 premiership side, a team rated as one of Norwood's best ever.
He was also a successful tennis player representing Australia at Davis Cup level and he even reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open.
At Norwood he played 94 games, 3 state games, worked on boards and committees and employed numerous players in his business
