JESSE AISH INTERVIEW

"I only played one league game last year in the middle of the year and when I got dropped I injured myself really badly in the reserves and that took a fair while to get over. I was a bit confused as to why I got dropped last year but maybe I wasn't really ready for league football right at that time. I've certainly improved a fair bit this year in my body and have added a fair few kilos, which has helped a lot.

The other teams pay me a bit more attention now after I kicked a few goals against a few teams and a few players have had a chat to me after I got the SANFL rising star nomination but the forward line's working so well this year I can just get on with my role and not worry about them. Bowny's a fantastic influence over me in the forward line, he's really helped me and lets me know what I should be doing. Vlat's has been in great form as well which has certainly helped everyone.

Having the surname Aish has never really fazed me too much, in fact I probably relish it a bit. When I step onto the field I'm there to play my own game, people can have their opinions but at the end of the day all I can do is the best I can. You can always hear stuff from the sidelines but I'm in footy mode so I just try to ignore it. Dad's been a massive influence on me ever since I started footy, he's always been there to teach me. Ever since I can remember he's taught me to kick on my left foot which has certainly helped me a lot. I certainly wouldn't have got to where I am now without his influence. I remember going to a few games of his growing up but luckily he's managed to transfer his highlight reel onto DVD so I can watch him which is great because he was such a good footballer.

When I was coming through the grades at Norwood I probably wasn't enjoying my football as much as I am now and I was torn a bit about whether to play tennis or football. But when I came back to Norwood everyone got right behind me and I pretty much haven't looked back since then. All the senior players came up to me when I got back and told me how good it was to see me out there and that was fantastic. Apparently I'm eligible for the Crows under the father son rule but to be honest I haven't really thought about it all. All I'm thinking about is playing the next game really well for Norwood and if anything came of that that'd be great. To be honest all I really care about is keeping my spot in the league team at Norwood."
